Now that we’re open!
Hello again to all you happy campers,
Hope all is well and you’re anxiously awaiting some warmer weather as much as we are.
Once again, it’s Patrick from the office with an update on some area happenings. This time around- I’m going to focus on a few of my favorite local events, and also mention a few fun new things to look forward to in our campground this year. I hope you enjoy reading these little notes, and I encourage you to share it with others who may be interested. Of course, a lot more information and links to local happenings and park events can be found on the calendar of our new website! We’re adding new stuff each day. Check it all out at http://www.htpresort.com/events/
It’s been an interesting first few weeks back open, to say the least. A few of our seasonal campers came in early March to get everything cleaned up and ready to go for the upcoming season. They were greeted with gorgeous weather and some of the most breathtaking sunsets I’ve ever seen.
Last weekend, we opened the Blue section to a good crowd of overnight campers. It was great to see so many old friends, and host a few new ones as well. Although there was a slight breeze Saturday, it still made for a beautiful day around town for the Emerald Isle St. Patrick’s Festival and the reopening of the Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier. RuckerJohns of Emerald Isle also managed to get the back patio open just in time for all of the festivities. As soon as they’re ready to go on the inside I’ll be sure to stop in for a bite and share some pictures. Hopefully everyone made it back home safely through the snow flurries that never seemed to stick (at least around here). I think we’ll all be glad when this mess is over.
This weekend, the temps look to be floating back near the 60’s at some points- and thank goodness for that. For anyone brave enough, I believe the ‘Cougar Plunge’ is still on and will be held on Saturday at the Western Regional Beach Access right down the street. I can’t really recommend anyone jumping in the Ocean without a full wetsuit at this point, but it could potentially be a lot of fun to innocently chuckle from afar. All proceeds from the event benefit the great cause of Croatan High School’s Project Graduation. Cool weather like this can make one thing more enjoyable- and that’s a good old Oyster Roast! Lucky for you, the 38th Annual Swansboro Rotary Oyster Roast will be held on Saturday evening- and they’ve got all the oysters, BBQ and more you can eat, plus all the beer you can drink- and it’s inside. Click the event page for more information and to figure out how to get your tickets. If you do go, it’s always a good idea to get there early and snag yourself a spot at a good table. Have fun, but make sure you get home safe!
On March 25th, the town will once again host the Emerald Isle Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K. This is a great race for runners or walkers of all ages. The starting point is right down the street at the Western Regional Access, and I think all of the courses have runners passing by the park along Reed Drive. Come on out and help us cheer them on! We’ll also have the Dank Burrito Food Truck out in front of the Emerald Isle Wine Market for lunch, so grab a bite and take it back to your site. Hopefully by that weekend, the weather will have cleared up enough so that the volunteer crew can have the 9 Hole Disc Golf Course at Emerald Isle Woods fully up and running. I’ve been helping out down there on a few of my days off and I must say it’s coming along very nicely. Kudos to the guys who sought it through, and to the town and local businesses for all their support.
Another cool Spring thing to catch is the Newport Pig Cookin Contest on April 7th & 8th. Of course, they’ll have some of the coolest pig cookers and the best NC BBQ you find, but this year they’ll also have the Band of Oz on Friday night. As always, admission and smells are totally free and well worth the trip but don’t leave without paying for a plate!
We are quickly filling up for Easter/Spring Break, so be sure to make your reservations as soon as possible! There will be a Wine Tasting on Friday night, and we’ll have the Allison Band at the Stage on Saturday. We’ll be sure to post the official schedule as soon as it’s ready. Fun World Motorsports should also be back open during that time, so stop in and take a ride on their Brand New Go-Karts- then see what new arcade games they’ve got! If that’s not enough, the first Race Day of the year at Carteret County Speedway will be held on Easter Sunday. You won’t want to miss it.
Publick Day in downtown Beaufort on April 22nd can be a fun excursion for the arts and craft lovers visiting the Crystal Coast. While you’re there, be sure to stop in one of the many great restaurants or bars along the beautiful waterfront area!
When May rolls around, we all know the campers will be rolling in shortly thereafter. The Yellow Section will finally be back open for overnight camping that first weekend. That time will also include the 2nd Annual Swansboro Derby Day Festival, 2017 North Carolina Paddle Festival, Bike the Banks, and the Wooden Boat Show in Beaufort. As the weather warms, the weekly Wine Tastings will be popping back up at the Emerald Isle Wine Market, and hopefully some new Food Truck vendors will be stopping by to spend some time with us. We’ll have the aptly named Maw Maw’s Crab Cakes here to help us celebrate Mother’s Day Weekend (5/13 & 5/14).
Be sure to check out the lineups for all the area concerts including both the AB Beach Music Festival, and Beaufort Music Festival the weekend before Memorial Day. The 2nd Annual Crystal Coast Music Festival 2017 will be held on June 3rd and will likely draw a big crowd, so get your tickets soon! If you haven’t heard, the Emerald Isle Beach Music Festival was pushed back to the last weekend in September.
A sneak peek of a few things to look forward to inside the park this year include a few Dance Parties at the stage hosted by DJ Deaf Ears. He’ll be throwin’ it back old-school style and spinning some of those classic tunes we all love (old & new)- all on vinyl. We’re also looking forward to having him as our Trivia Host throughout the season to make sure our brains still work during summer vacation. Most of the Trivia nights we have scheduled are on Friday nights or Sunday nights of big holiday weekends to allow everyone the opportunity to play!
We’ve also got some awesomeness in-store for our annual Customer Appreciation Weekend, which we can’t wait to share! This year, we’ll be switching it up a little and having a band on both Friday and Saturday nights. Much to everyone’s request, Blackwater Rhythm & Blues Band will get things going again on Friday evening. On Saturday night, we’ll have The Fantastic Shakers out on the Stage to tear the house down! The Cantina Caravan will be here to serve some adult beverages throughout the weekend, so there’s no excuse not to come out and kick back before we say so-long to another sweet Summer!
Thank you all for reading this, or at the very least acting like you did. It’s our pleasure to provide a fun, friendly, and safe oceanfront camping experience for everyone. Things really wouldn’t be the same without all of the great people involved in this operation!
With that being said, we’re open 7 days a week now and always happy to help. Most of you know where to find us, and for those who don’t- we’re working on that too!
See you soon!
